Saving layer settings

I'd like to use both the phone and PC to view/update a shapefile. I'm ok with copying the file back and forth manually.

Here's what I do:

1. Create a project in Locus GIS

2. Import a shp file

3. Change layer settings, like labels and style

4. Make some changes to the data, e.g, add a new point

5. Export the layer

6. Copy the updated shp file to PC

7. Make changes to the data on the PC

8. Copy the file to the phone

9. Import the file into the original Locus GIS project (after deleting the old version)

But now all the layer settings I did in step 3 are lost. Is there a way to retain them? Or is there another way I should be doing this?

Hi Boris, if you are using Qgis or Arcgis on your Pc, I think this will be helpful.

You will need to use project.db file instead of exporting your layer as shp file.

Unfortunately here is a major problem with export/import of SHP files. It is a fact, that SHP files cannot carry any special information about layer colors and other settings. So best way is use directly DB files in app you use. Maybe later should be created some "export" and "import" feature of whole project, that will export project together with all settings specially improved for some app. Like import/export to QGis, etc.

I understand that the SHP files can't include the layer settings. But I was hoping that there would be a way to import a SHP file into an existing layer and retain the layer properties.

Of course, ideally the project would work directly with the SHP file without the need to import/export, but that's a separate feature request. :)
