Improve GPS positionning with gyroscope

I'm not sure how positionning can be implemented in an apps, but in case of a bad GPS signal quality or for accurate data recording, I think that accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, magentic field (...) sensors might be useful to improve XYZ coordinates.

I don't think it is trivial, regarding variability of smartphone's world sensor, complexity of the mathematical analysis and validation of data, but if someone have some idea, i'll be more than happy to help with my modest knowledge.

It would be nice, but i doubt that smartphone "IMU" will add some accuracy (perhaps for short distances). From spring 2015 we are testing an experimental pedestrian INS in forest (the IMU alone costed 30k Eur) and it is hardly dependent on regular GPS fix. Also, i dont know, how it would work in real time, postprocessing is quite an annoyance, when acquiring operational spatial data ;) But the idea is good and resources that you provided are very inspirational.
